You can follow it here with Google Maps
A. Colosseo
The Colosseo is certainly the most emblematic monument of the city.
With a capacity of over 50,000 spectators, it was the largest amphitheater in the Roman world. The Colosseum is the place where the greatest gladiator fights, animal fights and Roman games took place. You may not know it, but in addition to these bloody shows, theatrical shows and battle re-enactments were also organized in the Colosseum. The place was really meant to entertain people, both in an artistic way and in a decidedly more violent way. Today it is possible to visit some parts of the Colosseum, including the first and second floors, the arena and even the underground level, where wild animals were kept.
B. Palatino
After visiting the Colosseum, you can head to the Palatino Hill, located nearby.
According to legend, the city of Rome was founded on this hill by the twins Remus and Romulus, two children abandoned and raised by a she-wolf in a cave located on the Palatine Hill.
From the top of the hill you can enjoy a magnificent view of the city of Rome and its most famous monuments. Here, you can also discover the residence of Augustus, the first Roman emperor.
C. Foro Romano
Not to be missed during your holidays in Rome is the Foro Romano, located next to the Palatine Hill and the Colosseum. In ancient times the Roman Forum was the center of the city.
It is possible to walk among the ruins of the ancient market and other administrative and religious buildings.
D. Piazza del Campidoglio / Musei Capitolini
After visiting the 3 most unmissable attractions of Rome, you can head to Piazza del Campidoglio. From the Roman Forum you can reach the square in 15 minutes on foot.
The Piazza del Campidoglio, designed by Michelangelo, features several famous monuments such as the Palazzo dei Senatori, the Palazzo dei Conservatori and the Palazzo Nuovo.
These 3 palaces are also known as the Musei Capitolini: here you can admire paintings by great artists such as Caravaggio or Tintoretto, as well as numerous sculptures and statues.
E. Piazza Venezia / Monumento a Vittorio Emanuele II
Once the visit to the Capitoline Museums is over, head towards Piazza Venezia (5 minutes on foot).
Here you will find the Monumento a Vittorio Emanuele II (commonly called the Vittoriano or Monument to the Unknown Soldier), a beautiful white marble building. The famous Colonna Traiana, in which some engravings of the emperor's military victories are depicted, is also nearby.
Piazza Venezia is the most central square in Rome. The streets starting from the square will allow you to reach the main tourist attractions of the city.
At this point, to return to the Casetta delle Fiabe, you will have to take bus number 64 towards San Pietro and get off at the terminus, the exchange point with the metropolitan train (consult the timetable here or search directly on the trenitalia.com website, entering "Roma S. Pietro" as the departure station and "Olgiata" as the arrival station). Take the metropolitan train towards Cesano-Viterbo and get off at Olgiata station. A few minutes walk and you will be back at your accommodation. All this with a single ticket.
